Pollinator Garden

An older home in Upper Arlington was in dire need of rejuvenation. The client’s goal was to update the entire home, inside and outside. The landscape was not only designed for their delight, but also to the pleasure of the seasonal pollinator insects and birds that visit central Ohio.

The enjoyment of the space begins with extending our outdoor seasons. This goal was accomplished by creating heat with an outdoor fireplace. For the construction of the fireplace, local, natural stone was selected that aligns with the design characteristics of the home.

To create shade, a natural cedar pergola was constructed, this helps in the creation of a true outdoor room. In the landscape, two small bubbling rock water features help to drown the sounds of the city and introduce a place for nature’s visitors to quench their thirsts.

The plants were selected with the thought of not only how they look from the patio, but also for their use as pollinators for the environment. All of these elements together create a wonderful environment for the client to enjoy and the pollinators to visit.
