Job Description

Oversee Nursery Operations, Nursery Logistics, and Nursery Crew.  Responsible for the care of all Nursery plant material until ready to be installed on projects.  Oversee morning loading of crew trucks.  Oversee unloading, placement, and count of all plant material deliveries.  Maintain irrigation systems.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Coordinate Nursery crew to efficiently and accurately load material onto trucks each morning.  Plan day before by grouping materials together by crew.
• Schedule, receive and coordinate unloading of plant deliveries and other materials throughout the day (semi-trucks with pallets).
• Assist with physical inventory counts of plant material.
• Train personnel in the Nursery and monitor performance while setting goals for career growth and development; Assist with disciplinary issues.
• Monitor and maintain irrigation systems throughout nursery and greenhouses; Grounds maintenance.
• Maintain a neat and organized nursery, greenhouses, and bulk storage areas.
• Plant, shrub, and tree care and maintenance – Propagation, planting, pruning, staking, stocking, organizing, watering and proper use of herbicides and pesticides.
• Oversee the care and maintenance of all Nursery equipment and tools.
• Additional duties as needed or assigned to achieve company goals and standards.

Essential Job Skills

• Attention to detail and ability to complete paperwork correctly and on time.
• Able to effectively communicate with subordinates, peers, and managers.
• Ability to identify plants by their Latin and common names.
• Strong computer and organizational skills to track and monitor orders.
• Familiarity with inventory management.
• Negotiation skills to secure favorable terms and pricing.
• Previous landscape and purchasing experience.

Required Education, Qualifications, and Skills

• Associate degree or higher in a related field is preferred.
• Valid Driver’s license with good driving record, and clean criminal background.
• Three years of horticulture experience is required.
• Two to three years of supervisory/manager experience is required.
• Previous landscape/grounds keeping/nursery experience is required.
• Experience with plant care, pruning, propagation, etc. required.
• Loader experience required.
• Current Ohio Pesticide Applicator license, or ability to obtain, upon hire.
